An Unintended Sabbatical

It’s been a full year since writing my last blog. I didn’t intend to take a break from my weekly musings but illness, fatigue, and the responsibilities of life dictated otherwise. For several months I fretted about “being behind” on my writing which added another stressor to my life. I didn’t need that! Finally, I realized it was okay to take a break. I was the one who imposed a weekly deadline on my writing so I certainly had the power to give myself a break, a much needed break. An unintended sabbatical was gifted to me. I needed to embrace it.

I spent much of the past year evaluating my relationships, responsibilities, and priorities. Through the clear lens of my sabbatical I came to understand change was needed in every area of my life. Much like cleaning out my closet I tossed things that no longer fit and uncovered forgotten treasures that brought me joy and comfort. God’s leading was evident in the entire process. He showed me what to avoid and what to embrace in this season of life. Most of all, He reminded me that my relationship with Him is my highest priority.

Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God..

  1. Great wisdom, Deanna. So needed for everyone. I hope your readers will be motivated to consider what God would be calling them to. I personally have done an extended sabbatical and the Lord used it in powerful ways. Thank you for telling us of your experience.

  3. Well said. It’s always pretty clear when a bit of wisdom comes from Holy Spirit.
