When I Look at the Night Sky

It was a warm summer evening and as we drove home after running errands I saw a huge white light rising in the eastern sky. I was disoriented at first as my mind struggled to understand what I was seeing. What was so incredibly bright in the sky? As I gazed for a few more minutes the brilliant spectacle of a supermoon became apparent. Trees and buildings cast long shadows against the backdrop of brightness and darkness fled from the overwhelming light.

A recent trip to the mountains, away from city lights, gave me a magnificent view of the moon and thousands of stars that seemed close enough to touch. Taking in the beauty of God’s creation, I recalled His promise to a childless Abraham, that his descendants would one day be as numerous as the stars of the sky. Who could imagine?

I am in awe that the Creator of the universe knew me before I was born and knows me by name. He thinks about me and cares about me. I feel so insignificant and small, but I matter to God. I can’t explain it; I only know it to be true because God’s Word says so. He is my hope and salvation. Hallelujah!

When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers – the moon and the stars you set in place – what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?

  2. Of God’s creation, the stars and trees are my favorites. We saw the super moon here in Idaho and it was impressive. God showing off again! Truly, I, like you, are in awe of His creativity and power.
