Hear My Cry, O God

I don’t think I’m alone when I say that life can be hard. Most of us have a decent place to live, a car for transportation, some sort of income to pay the bills, as well as family and friends to surround us with love and care. Even with all of these blessings sometimes life just hurts.

The past few years were a tremendous challenge for me. I faced people and situations that hurt me on a level I never imagined possible. Often, I felt like I was screaming for help but no one could hear. In truth, in spite of the best of intentions, no one can hear our deepest cries … except God.

I identify with the psalmist who pleads for God to hear his cry and answer his prayer. When his heart can’t take anymore and he is at the end of his rope, he asks God to raise him above his pain and circumstances. That’s my prayer too.

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

Psalm 61:1-2

I love that God listens, hears, and cares about the deepest cries of my heart. The very God who uniquely formed me in my mother’s womb continues to be concerned with every aspect of my life; a life created by God for a reason. A life created to worship Him.

Even now, I cry out to God and He hears me. He lifts me out of the deep pit of pain and sets my feet upon a rock. Praise be to God.

  1. Thank you for sharing, Deanna. You encourage us all with your vulnerable sharing of life’s challenges yet also the hope and help our precious Almighty God gives us. I love you.

  2. Amen! The God who sees, the God who cares, the God all powerful!
Trusting in His promise of good works for me to do that He put in place long before I arrived, and trusting in His purpose for my life and His will to be done gives me hope beyond measure!
Sorrow and suffering are major tools to refine our faith and experience God on a whole new level as we “move in close and hold on tight”🌺
