As a kid I was encouraged to memorize Bible verses. One of the first verses I learned is found is Psalm 119.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (Psalm 119:105 NIV).
I love the way God shows us His path with just enough light to see the next step, but not always enough light to see the full path. Following God for every step is a matter of trust.
One day, while meditating on Psalm 119:105, I decided to read the verses following it. What a life changer! I realized again how important it is to read Bible verses in context! Sometimes I miss important truths. Following God requires trust and commitment. The passage became an anchor in my Christian walk as a reminder to remain faithful to the vow I made to follow God.
“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path. I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. I have suffered much; preserve my life, Lord, according to your word. Accept, Lord, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end” (Psalm 119:105-112).
I join with the psalmist in confirming my commitment and trust in the Lord. Praise springs up from the depths of my being as I recall the Lord’s goodness. My heart is hungry to know more of God’s laws and precepts. I find protection in them as I navigate a sometimes hostile world. I find joy in God’s statutes because they draw me closer to the Father and, because I love Him, I will keep my vow to follow the path He has laid before me until my time here is done. I am so very blessed.

Great message! Thanks, Deanna🥰🤗🥰

So important! Read in context. I get myself in trouble when I forget this essential commitment. I also loved, “Praise springs up from the depths of my being as I recall the Lord’s goodness.” The Lord very recently brought about a joyful situation I had been committing to Him for a long time and wondered if it would happen. The desires of my heart were given by His goodness. Now, I’m facing another challenge and I’ve decided to expect with joyful anticipation the resolution of that challenge because He is good regardless of whether it turns out as I prefer. He knows best. Thank you, Deanna. Your words always bless me.
