How Majestic Is Your Name

My friend Carol at the beach lifting praises to God.

My cousin Barb and I recently took a trip to Wisconsin to visit friends and explore Door County. The area is known for its charming coastal towns, specialty shops, fish boils, cherry and apple orchards, and stunning beauty. Door County is often referred to as the “Cape Cod of the Midwest.” With the waters of Green Bay on one side and Lake Michigan on the other, the Door Peninsula offers spectacular waterfront views. This amazing description of the area served as the backdrop of our one day tour graciously provided by our friends.

Our first stop was alongside Lake Michigan where the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal provides safe passage for vessels traveling to and from the lake and Green Bay. As Barb and I were gawking at the beauty and sights around us we heard our friend Carol singing and twirling on the shore like Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music. With arms outstretched in praise, she was singing the words, “Oh Lord, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth”. As our tour continued, we saw incredible beauty in God’s creation. Monarch butterflies were dancing among the plants as we made our way through a scenic walking trail in one of the preserves of the Door County Land Trust. As we wandered, we were surrounded by a variety of trees including Maple, Hemlock, Beech, Birch, Red Oak, and Ash standing like soldiers along our path. The waters of Lake Michigan and Green Bay were remarkably calm and the sun created diamonds on the gentle waves. It was gorgeous! All of this magnificent beauty reminds me of the words found in Psalm 8:

Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! – Psalm 8 (NIV)
