His Love Endures Forever

I spent the past few days in southern California enjoying a spectacular view of the ocean. I gazed in wonder as pods of dolphins danced in the gentle swells and a fleet of pelicans flew in formation just above the surface of the water in search of food. The salty smell of the air and the constant rhythm of the waves soothe my mind and soul like few things can. The vast grandeur of the ocean is more than my mind can comprehend. I love it.

As I look across the expanse of blue, the water rises up to meet the sky on the horizon miles away. It looks as though there is no end to the ocean. While viewing this, my thoughts turned to God’s word:

You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, and I will exalt You. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever (Psalm 118:28-29).

The phrase “His love endures forever” occurs 43 times in the Bible. It must be an important reminder.

  • When I am joyful, His love endures forever.
  • When I am sad, His love endures forever.
  • When I am strong, His love endures forever.
  • When I am weak, His love endures forever.
  • When I succeed, His love endures forever.
  • When I fail, His love endures forever.
  • No matter what, His love endures forever.

Like the ocean meeting the sky on the distant horizon, God’s love is eternal and sustaining. Nothing I do can remove His love from me. It’s more than my mind can comprehend. I love it.

  1. Great thoughts, Deanna (as usual). To tell you the truth, I would have expected there to be more times the phrase would have been used. It seems like that theme is woven throughout the Bible (and it is) but I guess the exact wording isn’t. What a fascinating thing to meditate upon.
