Just Call Me Precious

Recently I read a message from a young man to his mom for Mother’s Day. He took the time to thank many women who were major influences in his life, but he saved the best for last … There are so many more of you out there, but the one true person I call mother is my mom. Now she calls me many names, and yes “Precious” is my favorite. But truly, I love calling her mom the most!

I love that this big, strong guy loves being called “Precious” by his mom. He is not embarrassed by the name, he basks in the fact that he is so precious to his mom. How cool is that! This man loves his momma and his momma loves him.

Sadly, this young man went home to be with Jesus a few days ago. This man, who is so very precious to his mom and his family, is now with the One who loves him most. God, who makes each of us a unique, one-of-a-kind individual has called this beloved soul to spend eternity with Him.

The Bible tells us often how precious and priceless we are to God, yet in the middle of our busy, hectic lives it is easy to lose sight of just how much He loves us. Here are a few Bible verses that remind me how precious we are.

  • You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. – Psalm 139:13-16 (NLT)
  • For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16 (NET)
  • But now, O Jacob, listen to the Lord who created you. O Israel, the one who formed you says, “Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. – Isaiah 43:1-2 (NLT)
  • The Lord your God is in your midst; he is a warrior who can deliver. He takes great delight in you; he renews you by his love; he shouts for joy over you. – Zephaniah 3:17 (NET)

I am thankful for the many people who have influenced my life and helped me grow in my walk with the Lord, but I am most grateful to the One who calls me “Precious”, the Lord Jesus Christ. I stand secure in the knowledge that He loves me and one day will call me to spend eternity with Him. I love Jesus and Jesus loves me.
