Typically my weekly blog is available on Sunday, or Monday at the latest. Well, it’s Tuesday evening and still no blog. I decided to face the obvious … I have writer’s block. So what will I do about that? I am going to write about it!
To get started, I looked up the meaning of writer’s block. Here it is … the condition of being unable to think of what to write or how to proceed with writing. Yep, that’s the description of my current situation. There is a list of blog ideas sitting on the edge of my desk, I know how to research for background information, and I have the skills to weave a creative and meaningful article, so what is my problem? I seem to have lost my focus.
Sometimes, I have a similar problem when I pray. Are my prayers even making it past the ceiling? Maybe focus is the issue there too. It is important for me to set aside those things that distract me so I can spend quality time in relationship with my heavenly Father. I need a plan.
- Step 1 – Abide in Christ: allow God’s Word to fill my mind, direct my will, and change my heart.
- Step 2 – Pray in Faith: ask God to accomplish what He has promised in His Word.
- Step 3 – Stand on God’s Word: make the moment-to-moment decision to believe the promises of God rather than depend on my own strength and reasoning.
- Step 4 – Pray in the Spirit: trust in faith for the Spirit of God to lead my thoughts, and rely on God to hear, understand, and act.
- Step 5 – Persevere in Prayer: have faith that God hears my prayers and will respond quickly and decisively at the right time.
- Step 6 – Employ Different Types of Prayer: use my voice to express what’s in my heart; meditate to engage my thoughts, emotions, and desires; spend time in silence and contemplation to hear God speak to me.
- Step 7 – Flow in God’s Love: allow the love of God to flow through me and wash away my selfish thoughts and desires.
After examining my struggle to focus at times with my blog writing and my prayer life, it is clear that God has a plan for me, even the blogs I write and the prayers I pray. His word reveals many assurances of this.
- For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. -Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
- And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. – Romans 8:28 (NLT)
- But the Lord’s plans stand firm forever; his intentions can never be shaken. – Psalm 33:11 (NLT)
- The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. – 2 Peter 3:9 (NLT)
- The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. – Psalm 32:8 (NLT)
- Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. – Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT)
My job and my joy is to focus on God, he has the plan!
